IN A 1ST-TIME VISIT
FROM IOWA, COLT MATHER DOMINATES THE A-MOD CLASS AT 24 RACEWAY by:
Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO MOBERLY, MO (May 30) - The
A-modified race started out with Mark VanWinkle leading the first lap, but after
that it was all Colt Mather from Webster, IA on this night. Mather led from lap
2 on, with Dave Holder getting past VanWinkle after a couple laps to gain 2nd
place and hold on to it from there. On the white flag lap, VanWinkle put on the
best challenge for Holder but could not get around, settling for 3rd in what may
have been Holder's last night in the Alan McCormick-owned racecar. Steve Potter
passed Jeff Rash on lap 11 to secure a 4th place finish with both of them
returning to racing at 24 Raceway for their first visit of this season.
Four of the Sportsman cars: Andrew Page, Cody Agee, Chad Walter and Tim Eravi,
all had severe damage in their heat racing, but impressed the crowd with a lot
of repair work by their respective pit crews to get all four back into the
feature. Huntsville's Derrick Agee ran a strong race in this one, with Rick
Girard getting into 2nd early on and finishing there. All four of those involved
in the crashes finished the feature race. Three of the B-modifieds came
into the back stretch running three-wide for their start, but last season's
track Champ, Gary Wilson of Holliday, led all 15 laps for his first win of 2009.
Galen Hassler completed his third 2nd place finish in consecutive weeks. In
Hobby Stocks, Moberly's Tom Creed came on for his win #3 of the season,
finishing ahead of Clayton Crump. And 4 clyinder Hornet driver Rob Chase of
Clark led all 12 laps in the race that saw a couple of the wilder crashes of the
evening. Wife Kristi Chase followed him to the finish for 2nd in a
time-shortened event. After the features, a Hornet mechanics race had ten
entries and was won by Ken Purdy of Madison in the Jeff Purdy 4 cylinder car,
with Jeff making a tire change this time as the crew member. UPCOMING
