FOUR OF THE SIX CLASS WINNERS ALSO LEAD ALL THEIR
LAPS AT 24 RACEWAY Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO
MOBERLY, MO (May 23) - Driving a dominant race, Josh Fisher scored his fifth
career O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warrior win Saturday night, May 23rd at
24 Raceway in the 10th Annual Gary Scott Memorial.
Fisher jumped into the lead and set a blistering pace as he was
chased by outside starter Austin Alumbaugh throughout the 20 lapper. Fisher had
lapped up to sixth place Mitchell Moore when the only stoppage occurred on lap
seventeen for Matt Fox and Terry Hinck, who made contact with one another.
Neither driver would be able to continue ruining their opportunity for top ten
finishes as they were eighth and ninth at the time.
Fisher would not be
challenged over the final laps in his father Rusty’s Ozark Barge and Dock
Service Maxim as he would take the $1500 winner’s check. Alumbaugh came home a
strong second in his father Karrick’s Alumbaugh Heating and Cooling XXX. Chris
Walker ran a career best third in his father Larry’s Santa Fe Glass McGarry
Chassis. Current point leader Randy Martin came home fourth in the Diamond Pet
Foods J&J followed by Rusty Potter in the Roy Cary Livestock and Machinery
Maxim. Mitchell Moore was sixth followed by Curtis Boyer. Rounding out the top
ten were Lanny Carpenter, Randall Roberts, and Tyler Blank.

In the night's
earlier racing action, Brian Robinson was the man to beat in the B-Modified
feature, as the red & white 10R car from Huntsville simply stayed out front in
all the heat laps and in the feature. About halfway through the 15 lap event,
Robinson was getting a challenge from Blake David, running on the low lane, but
David couldn't pull off the pass. These two plus Galen Hassler and Gary Wilson
ran a tight race and out in front of the pack. A restart on Lap 12 from a
caution, saw Hallsville's Hassler take over 2nd and finish there, ahead of
Fulton's B. David. Gary Wilson of Holliday came from behind on the last two laps
to pass Mark Botts to secure 4th.
The Sportsman race had an interesting
beginning as the 40 & 46 cars of William Dahl and Larry Perkins decided to put
on a crashing clinic on the front stretch. Seems the two had a disagreement on
race strategies and used their cars to make a point while on the yellow flag
lap. Both were given the black flag and shown to the pit area for excessive
"rubbing". When the Sportsman racing resumed, there were several lap leaders
with pole winner Tim Eravi of Moberly taking the early ones. Chad Walter of
Clarence was next for a few, followed closely by Columbia's Andrew Page. On lap
7, Page got around Walter and held the lead for the remaining 5 laps to get his
2nd win of the 2009 season, with Derrick Agee finishing close behind in 2nd. A
few laps earlier, Walter, Eravi and Clinton Dale were puttin' on a show by
running three-wide on the back stretch for 3rd. And those were the 3rd, 4th &
5th finishers in that order. Great race and great show to watch!
The
Hobby Stocks had a three-wide start for something unusual with Tom Creed of
Moberly taking the win in their race. And the red 4 clylinder Hornet of Rob
Chase was another of those cars to beat, as the Clark resident led all his laps
and also the heat race. Chase did have some challenges from Columbia's Brooke
Hassler, both of these two having won the track championships in years past.
Hassler, along with other Hornet drivers, Andrew Hurley and Devin Still pushed
hard, but just couldn't get by Chase during the race. Hassler came in 2nd,
followed by Anabel's Still, 3rd and Kristi Chase for 4th.
