Q and A's with Tony Garner Find out more about Tony on his "Driver Profile" page. 1. The usual questions Favorite form of motor sports? Nextel Cup, but I do have to say, I think it was more entertaining 5 years ago or more. I understand things have to change, but I think there have been to many changes in the last few years. Favorite driver? Tony Stewart, some people think he is a butt head, but I like his style of driving, and he is never a fake on camera, he speaks his mind whether it gets him in trouble or not. But there are a lot of drivers, past and present that I have a lot of respect for. Favorite race track Talladega Favorite car? GM of course, I sell them. Favorite car of all time I'd like to have setting in my garage, 1978 Trans Am, with a small block 400, black of course. What type of vehicle do you drive on the street? I switch a lot, I work for Bentz GM Country, it's kinda nice to go and pick out something different from time to time. 2. What one race that you competed in stands out the most in your mind? Probably my first race ever. To make a long story short, we were late for the races because we had a flat on the trailer and didn't have a spare. So we missed hot laps and heat races and had to start last, so my first lap on a race track was the green for the feature. We ended up getting second that day and felt like we'd won the race, and did come back the next week and do so. 3. What is one thing in your opinion that would improve the fans at 24 Raceway's experience at the races each week? Give them more info on different drivers, not just who they are, but where they are from, what they do for a living, stuff about their family, wife, kids, ect.. How long they been racing, where and what, just more personal info and of course their sponsors. I just think it makes they fans feel like they know them better and gives them a reason to root for a particular driver or car. This could be done over the speaker system before the races, during cautions, half time and so on. Also maybe a flyer or paper each week that features a few different drivers each week. Also when I sit in the stands I really enjoy driver introductions, they could do a different class each week. Just always keep the fan's entertained, if your not talking on the loud speaker, put some really cool music on it. 4. Do you play any computer racing sims at home and/or in your opinion do/how do they help with the real thing? I have before with my son, and I can tell the it does help you hand eye cordination. But it's still not gonna let you feel the car or what it is doing. 5. Can you describe what a typical night at the races is like for you, how you get pumped, and how you wind down after the races? I try to keep from getting to pumped before the races, it seems like the more relaxed I am the better I'll run. As far as winding down, I'm not able to completely wind down 'til I get home, sit down at the computer, have a couple of beers and read stuff on Heartland Motorsports. 6. If you were watching the races from the stands what class would you enjoy watching the most? Which ever class had the best side by side racing that particular night. 7. If you could pick a dream sponsor who would it be? What could be better than Budweiser (Bud Light), I mean they would be able to give enough money to run a top notch race team, plus they could supply all the after races refreshments. That Dale Jr. is a pretty lucky guy, isn't he? 8. What does your sponsor do for you aside from giving you money? Some of my sponsors have done work for me or given me supplies. Some have even brought me more fans because they work for a company that sponsors me and came to watch me run. 9. If you could get a brand new street car or truck for free what would it be? Being halfway realistic, Cadillac XLR. 10. What do you say to kids (and others) who want to become a race car driver? If you have the opportunity, go for it. But remember, it's not just about having the gut's to get out there, it's about getting to know your car better, studying it, trying to figure out a way to make it handle better and go faster. Thanks all, and I look forward to seeing everyone at the race track Sincerely, Tony Garner Thank you Tony, we look forward to seeing you win real soon.
