    Favorite car?

2. Can you describe how you were introduced to racing?

I Started out young. Mom & Dad both raced. Started at age 12 helping Sonny Findling then helped my brother-in-law Dental Williams until I started racing in 1990. Larry Winn put me in my first racecar.

3. What tracks have you raced on and which track is your favorite to race on?

24 Raceway, Scotland County Raceway, Lee county Speedway, Eldon Raceway, Bloomfield Speedway, Capitol Speedway, Bluegrass Speedway, Marshalltown Raceway & Quincy Raceway.

My favorite is 24 Raceway because of the atmosphere & the track is well lit & everyone seems to get treated equally. They also have the best fans in the country.

4. What one race that you competed in stands out the most in your mind?

I went to a 2 day race in Donnellson, Iowa (Lee County Speedway) and got lucky & won all 3 races that I was in without ever leading a lap. I passed for the lead each time coming out of turn 4 for the checkered.

5. Can you describe what a typical night at the races is like for you, how you get pumped, how you cope with car swaps (between the A-mod and the B-mod) and how you wind down after the races?

I feel very nervous as soon as we pull into the gate. The nervousness & the cheer of the crowd is what keeps me pumped up. Having 2 cars that handle good helps me cope with swapping cars (from the A mod to the B mod). The better the cars handle, the easier they are to drive. And having a good pit crew helps with having a good handling car. The drive home after the races helps me to wind down. It gives you lots of time to think driving an hour (to get) home.

6. What do you say to kids who wish to become a race car driver professionally or otherwise

GO FOR IT! With all the things that kids can get into now a days, racing is a perfect thing to do with your time. Try to do your best & believe in yourself.

 Thank you very much,

 Kelly Smith
