 5-14-2005 - Race Review

By: Ron Lueck

For the second consecutive week, David Holder scored a double win on Saturday evening in both the A-& B-modifieds. He led all laps in the A feature in the 7-car (while also starting from the pole), winning the A-mod feature for the fourth straight time. And he led all but laps #8 and #10 in the B feature with his 40-car, after starting on the front row, for his 3rd B-mod win of the season. A very solid performance from this Clarence resident. Both the Hornets and Hobby Stock classes made the 3rd try a charm in getting an official start to their night, with a lot of initial lap racing mishaps in turns 1 and 2. Happy to report there were no injuries in any of the four wrecks, including the roll-over by Kristi Chase's Hornet car. Rob Chase of Clark led all laps to win the 4 cylinder Hornet event with a rare single caution race. Tim Dawson of Callao started on row 1, led all but laps #5 and #6 and won the Hobby Stock feature using car No. 51 of Alan Hultz's. And what a neat story from the Sportsman class. Clarence's Darrin Boling started on the pole, led all the laps in his Camero and got his first win since switching last July from the Hornet class to a Sportsman car, on his son Dillon's 6th birthday. It seems Dillon gave up a cake and ice cream party option with his friends, and chose instead to attend the Saturday night race in the pits to be alongside Dad. With these results on the night of his boy's attendance, Darrin just may be bringing Dillon to the pit area more often. The first Powder Puff event for the season saw 7 entries using Hornet and Hobby Stock class cars. Nikki McCarty of Moberly won this last race of the night with the 7-car, a Hobby Stock borrowed from Clinton Dale. Plenty of moisture from the mid-week rains, along with the cooler weather, kept the racetrack in a great tacky-surface situation for the night's races, with no dust. As a result, the crowd got to view some great racing once again at 24 Raceway in Moberly.

This coming Saturday of May 21 promises to be a little warmer for the weekly racing series, featuring the five classes of both A- and B-Modifieds, Sportsman, Hobby Stock and 4 cylinder Hornets. Also appearing this week will be those exciting little cars with the motorcycle engines from the Northeast Missouri Dwarf Car Association. Grandstand admission is $9 for adults and $3 for kids, 6 to 12 years old. Hot laps are at 6pm and racing begins at 7pm.

In the Jr. Race Fan Club prize give-away, Nick Hamlin of Edina won the shiny red kid's bicycle, co-sponsored this last week by Agee Plumbing and Elite Tires, both of Moberly. And once again, thanks to all the sponsors for their many prizes donated and won by both adults and kids alike. Next week's bike sponsor for the Jr. Race Fan Club will be C B R Chassis of Cairo. Please see the website for upcoming info on the 360 c.i. W.O.W. Sprints coming Saturday, May 28 in conjunction with the Gary Scott Memorial Special. This will be the 1st night of a two-night event, so be sure to catch it.
