July 3 2004
Intermittent rains, too much mud, not enough sunshine and threats of
more rain coming into the evening hours, caused the Firecracker Forty for the A-modifieds
scheduled for Saturday the 3rd, to be postponed a week. With a $1000 set to go
to the winner, this 40 lap feature sponsored by L & J Development, Inc.,
promises to be a very big and exciting event, and is now set for the 10th of
July. It will be starting at the same time of 7pm, with the driver's meeting
followed by hot laps, beginning an hour earlier at 6pm. Sponsors for the night's
big racing event are L & J Development, Inc., located at 105 North Avenue in
Moberly. A registration fee of $60 will be charged for the car and driver
together on the regular members of 24 Raceway. For non-members, the car & driver
registration is $80.
As a bonus to the night's festivities, this will be a double points
racing night for the other five classes in addition to a fireworks display that
was set to be held on the 3rd, and now being held after the 40 lap race ends.
Special thanks to J & M Displays out of Yarmouth, Iowa for their part in
furnishing the big bang. Also involved in supporting the night's special event
are Bentz GM Country of Macon and the Best Western / Moberly Inn. And as if that
was not enough, Saturday the 10th is also the monthly show of the Northeast
Missouri Dwarf Cars appearing at the track as originally penciled in on the 2004
schedule. These drivers from eastern Missouri and western Illinois will also
benefit from the double points scoring night, bringing a total of seven classes
competing for prize money at 24 Raceway. Plan for a full night of racing as you
attend these action-packed races.
There will be drawings for fireworks kits courtesy of Terry's Auto Sales,
and numerous prize give-aways to both adults and kids, generously donated by
many local supporters of the Moberly area racetrack. And for the Junior Race
Fans in attendance, there will be the weekly drawing for a kid's bicycle. This
is a great way for some lucky child up to 12 years of age to get a shiney new
bike. This week, the bike is donated by Graphic Impressions of Kirksville and
run by Pam Harrelson, the one in charge of handling various graphic applications
and layouts.
So, for July 3rd, either watch (or hope you were able to enjoy) the
Nextel Cup Firecracker 400 at 6pm Saturday night on FOX TV. And on July the
10th, come out to 24 Raceway to enjoy the A-modifieds competing in a firecracker
race of our own, the Firecracker 40 beginning at 7pm, where it's Dirt Track
Racing at Its Best. Kids ticket prices are $5 for ages 6 to 12, and adults are
$12 for the grandstands. Pit passes are only $20. A flyer appears on the 24
Raceway website and also on Heartland Motorsports. Watch for more info on the
Fan Appreciation Night to take place one week following this 40 lap special
event, and now scheduled for July 17. Hope to see you and yours at the
racetrack!
