RACING TO RESUME AT 24 RACEWAY, WITH THE FINAL WEEKLY RACE TOWARDS THE SEASON POINTS, AND THE ALL-STAR RACE

by Ron Lueck

24 Raceway, Moberly, MO:  Once more, the green flag will fall on the weekly racing at Moberly, and this will be the last date for gaining points towards the 2010 Championships.  Racing for their respective purse, points and trophies will be the five classes of A & B-Modifieds, Sportsman, Hobby Stock and 4 cylinder Hornet classes.  The season standings are close in most of the five classes:  In A-mods, Quincy's Steve Grotz leads by 2 points over Matt Dotson of Sturgeon, and the B-mods are almost as close with Gary Wilson from Holliday having an 8 point advantage on Kevin Embree of Paris.  Chad Walter, Clarence, of the Sportsman class has the largest lead of all classes with that 30 point spread in front of Huntsville's Derrick Agee.  And just 2 points separate leader Robert Winfrey of Moberly from Devin Still of Clarence in the Hornets.  Plenty of these races to be decided on this Saturday, the 14th.  Rain and the accompanying storms have played havock with the scheduling this season - more so than the previous two years.  These points standings come from only 9 nights of racing with most classes getting in only 8 events this season.  Standings are current thru July 17th and the 2010 season point totals can be viewed on the website  www.speednetdirect.com under 24 Raceway.

Following the five feature events for this August 14th night will be the annual All-Star event.  Each of the 5 winners of the 8-lap races for the All-Star race will get their car's picture posted for the 2011 season on the website banner for www.24racewayinmoberly.com .  Winners of the various classes over the 9 race nights automatically qualify for this special event.  In addition, the heat winners for this August 14th, as well as feature winners in all five classes will qualify and start in the grid after those previous winners.  The B's have the most qualifiers with Larry Winn, Kevin Embree, Mark Botts, Tom Elsen, Gary Wilson and Bob Woodrow all having won a feature.  Both the A's and Hornets have 5 drivers each having qualified for the All-Star event, with the A's having Jason Hughes, Vance Wilson, Colt Mather, Steve Payne and Dave Holder.  The Hornets list Andrew Hurley, Rob Chase, Robert Winfrey, Devin Still and John Baker as winners this season.  Chad Walter, Jeff Creed and Derrick Agee are the three already in the Sportsman All-Star race, while Clayton Crump, Jerry Warren and Tim Dawson also make up the three qualifiers in the Hobby Stocks.  All classes may have later additions from this Saturday's heats and features.

"Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will begin this Saturday night at 7pm, with a short driver's meeting at 6pm, followed by hot laps, starting at 6:15.  See any of the websites posting 24 Raceway releases, mainly  www.24racewayinmoberly.com for this and other notices.  Admission to the grandstand is only $10 for this coming weekend of August 14th at 24 Raceway.  Kids 12 and under are always free to the grandstands, so bring the family out for a good night of entertainment.  Pit passes are $25 for this night.

A mechanic's race of 3 to 5 laps is also set for the Hornet guys who usually work on the wrench end of things.  Only this time, Hornet mechanics will get to turn the steering wheel for a few laps to see what it takes to drive one of these small cars.  It's a good event for the mechanics to tackle, and also for the fans to watch at the end of the evening.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
